Who We Are

Music is a powerful force, offering unique experiences and emotions, affecting us all differently.

The thrill of performance. The serenity of practice. Purpose, career, connection, meaning, shared stories, and even nostalgia–we believe these are all gifts music can give us.

That’s why since 1987, the Summer Music Society has given people a place to share and grow their love of friendship, collaboration, community, creativity, and skills development — above all, a place to share a love of music.

Every year, people of all ages gather at the shores of Lake Huron for our Summer Music Camp. Whether you're 4 or 94 years old, you can learn music with us. In fact, we often have multiple generations in one family pick up their instruments together!

But Summer Music Society is more than just a music camp: it's a community, a tradition, and a beacon of musical education, performance and appreciation, and we support local music performance and education any way we can.

We are a hub of music and learning, where the boundaries of age and experience blur, and the love of music binds everyone together.

What We Do

Our camp is a place to learn skills, build community, make friends, and hone talents. From curious preschoolers to future Broadway stars, and beginner musicians to aspiring jazz artists, Summer Music Camp has something for everyone.

Our camp offers a diverse range of programs tailored to all skill levels. Our youngest students explore the joy of making music through dance, movement, and artistic expression. Beginners learn the basics of instrumental or vocal music, while intermediate and advanced musicians refine their skills in workshops and masterclasses, led by some of the best educators and professional musicians in North America.

At the end of the week, everything you have learned and worked for comes together for your Gala Showcase performance!

Summer Music Camp has been an unforgettable experience for so many people over the decades. Adults have found a renewed sense of purpose, parents see their kids gain skills and a new sense of confidence, and volunteers and donors get to share our rich tradition of music excellence with each new generation of campers.

Our work goes beyond Summer Music Camp, though.

We support local concerts, buy and share instruments and sheet music with local music teachers, and help educators deliver outstanding music education to our entire community–all to share our love of music.
