Volunteers
Summer Music Camp depends on the work of dedicated volunteers who want to share their love of music.
There are so many ways volunteers help make Summer Music Camp a success. Supervising campers during lunch, helping in the office, lending a hand for our Tots ‘n Tunes program, set up and take down for our concerts, moving instruments, and more!

LUNCH MONITOR
Participant group: Students ages 4 - senior
Goals: To help Summer Music students experience a relaxed and enjoyable lunch break.
Activities and tasks: Upon arrival at SDSS, pick up a Lunch monitor Vest and proceed to the area where students will gather for lunch - weather-dependant. Supervise and assist students.
Outline of responsibilities:

Assist students to find a place in the given area to eat their lunch;

Assist small children with trips to washroom;
-
Supervise at playground during designated time.
Time commitment expected: Arrival time 11:45 through lunch (12:00 to 1:00)
Boundaries and limitations: Only needed for the lunch hour and in area outlined
Personal traits and qualities needed: interest in helping in an inter-generational environment ages 4 - senior
Working conditions (e.g. non-smoking environment): Inside or outside lawn /playground as required at SDSS
Benefits to the volunteer: Experience positive interaction with the office staff, Board of Directors, Faculty and students of Summer Music.
OFFICE HELPER
Participant group: Office staff, Board of Directors, Artistic Director (AD), Assistant Artistic Director ( AAD), Faculty, Students
Goals: To help the office staff during camp week
Activities and tasks: May include photo copying, computer work or running errands to various SM venues.
Outline of responsibilities: Responsible to office staff including the Artistic Director and the Assistant Artistic Director
Time commitment expected: Choice of half day commitments (e.g., 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM or 1:00 PM - 3:30 PM)
Boundaries and limitations: Will not be expected to interact with parents
Skills, experience and qualifications required: Computer skills, Photo Copier familiarity, willingness to walk or drive to venues in Southampton
Personal traits and qualities needed: Positive attitude, willingness to take direction and possibly learn new skills
Support, supervision and evaluation provided: Photo copy instruction provided.
Working conditions (e.g. non-smoking environment): Mainly the hall areas of SDSS
Benefits to the volunteer: Experience positive interaction with the office staff, Board of Directors, Faculty and students of Summer Music.
TOTS & TUNES ASSISTANT
Participant group: Children ages 4 & 5 years
Goals: To assist instructors in implementation of their music program.
Activities and tasks: Working with 4 & 5 year old children with musical instruments as directed by teacher; helping with craft activities.
Outline of responsibilities:

Assisting to set up instruments;

Assist with craft activities;

Assisting with lining children up in particular formations;

Assist with washroom visits.
Time commitment expected: Classes run from 9:00 to 12 noon. Arrive at SDSS at 8:30 on camp days
Boundaries and limitations: All instruction will be given by teaching staff.
Personal traits and qualities needed: Ability follow direction of teaching staff; to manage tots; to assist children in washroom necessaries
Working conditions (e.g. non-smoking environment): You will be working indoors at SDSS
Benefits to the volunteer: Enjoy the delight of watching children 4 & 5 years old create and enjoy a musical experience. You will experience positive interaction with the office staff, Board of Directors, Faculty and students of Summer Music.
FACILITIES MANAGER ASSISTANT
Participant group: Board of Directors, Artistic Director (AD), Assistant Artistic Director ( AAD), Faculty, Students
Goals: Assist with equipment setup and takedown for Camp Week. May include travel between facilities when moving instruments.
Activities and tasks: includes moving furniture and musical instruments as required for camp programs and galas
Outline of responsibilities: Responsible to the the Artistic Director and the Assistant Artistic Director for most requirements
Time commitment expected: Variable - May include some effort on the weekend before and after camp.
Boundaries and limitations: Will not be expected to interact with parents
Personal traits and qualities needed: Positive attitude, willingness to take direction. Prudent handling of expensive instruments.
Working conditions (e.g. non-smoking environment): Indoors at SDSS and some outside work moving instruments between locations.
Benefits to the volunteer: Experience positive interaction with Faculty and students of Summer Music.
